Phil Dodd of Silverton takes advantage of mild November weather to read at his usual spot outside the Kendall Mountain Cafe on Monday. Dodd, who was a geological engineer with the U.S. Atomic Energy Agency in Grand Junction, says Silverton immediately made a good impression on him when he first came here in 1949 to escape the desert heat. Soon after arriving in town, he found that the “real action” was on the first block over — Blair Street, where the movie “Ticket to Tomahawk,” starring Marilyn Monroe, was being filmed.
