Silverton’s annual celebration of winter, Snowscape 2008, gets under way today and winter has certainly obliged with a setting of deep snow.
Events this year include:

Today (Thursday)
• Ice and snow sculpture contest start, with judging at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
• Snowcape Parade, 6:30 p.m.
• Bonfire, 7 p.m., Kendall Mountain Recreation Area.
•  “Love Stories,” presented by A Theatre Group, 7:30 p.m., Blue Raven Gallery. Adults, $5, children, $2.

Friday, Feb. 15
• School recreation extravaganza, afternoon, Kendall Mountain Recreation Area.
•  “Love Stories” presented by A Theatre Group, 7:30 p.m., Blue Raven Gallery. Adults, $5, children, $2.

Saturday, Feb. 16
• Snowshoe race, 11 a.m., Kendall Mountain Recreation Area.
• Broomball games, 10 a.m., ice rink.
•Snow golf, registration at 11 a.m., tee time at noon, train depot.
• Dinner/dance, 5:30 p.m., Grand Imperial Hotel.
• Fireworks, 8 p.m.

Sunday, Feb. 17
Horseshoe tournament, 11:30 a.m., Kendall Mountain Recreation Area
Snowboard competition, noon, Kendall Mountain Recreation Area.
 Cardboard derby, noon inspection, 1 p.m. race, KSJC.
Awards and closing, after derby, Chamber of Commerce office at the Visitors Center.
