Fire Dept. to wash Greene St. Saturday
The Silverton San Juan Volunteer Fire Department is planning its annual Greene Street splash down this Saturday, May 15.
Fire Chief Gilbert Archuleta advises motorists to not park on Greene Street from 6 a.m. to noon that day so the firefighters can wash away the winter’s deposits of dirt and grime.

fundraiser is Sunday
Too busy to make it to the Bar-D Chuckwagon in Durango? Well this week they are coming to Silverton.
It’s a fundraiser for the Silverton Area Chamber of Commerce at the Kendall Mountain Community Center on Sunday, May 16. Dinner will be at 6 p.m. and the show at 7 p.m.
Enjoy the songs of the Bar-D Wranglers while enjoying your choice of BBQ Brisket or veggie dinner served with garlic mashers, veggies, bread, beverage and dessert.
Adult Beef Plate/Show $15; Adult Veggie Plate/Show $12
Children Pizza or Chicken Plate/Show (4-10 yrs) $7; Children (3 yrs & Under FREE)
Show only/no food, $10, Show starts at 7 p.m.

Silverton Soccer Camp fundraiser is Sunday
The Silverton Summer Soccer Camp Fundraiser will get kicking on Sunday, May 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Memorial Park.
Silverton School soccer coach Sallie Barney said community soccer games will be held, with teams created at the field based on age and desire (or lack thereof) to be competitive.
The cost is $5 per player and spectator donations are encouraged to support the Silverton soccer team.
Public Lands Center
office opens Monday
The San Juan Public Lands Center office on Blair Street will open for the season on Monday, May 17.
The office provides information on Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service land. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
All-school reunion
planned June 25-27
The Silverton High School all-class reunion is scheduled for June 25 to 27, according to Sandra Voilleque Campuzano and her brother, Paul Voilleque, two of the alumni.
“This reunion takes place every years,” said Sandra. “We expect over 300 graduates to come home to celebrate, but we think there may be others out there we have missed.

“Paul and I are making a special trip to Silverton on April 22  to work on the details,” Sandra said.
“So far we are planning a night at the museum and the Castles in the Sky film on the Friday evening. A picnic in the Park with the Brass Band on Saturday and a  banquet at Town Hall on Saturday evening. A Sunday brunch at a local  restaurant is also planned.
“Many more things are up in the air,” Sandra said.
