Dumpster-diving bear causing some concern.
Big bear footprints outside the San Juan County Courthouse in Silverton.
The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Division of Wildlife are trying to get a big bear to stay away from town, with some success.
Deputy Bruce Conrad has gone so far as to fire rubber shot at the bear, and that seems to have done the trick for now.
The large black bear had gotten into the habit of diving into various trash containers in town during its nightly visits.
