U.S. 550 project begins Friday, July 16
The Colorado Department of Transportation begins a surface treatment project on U.S. 550 this week over Molas Pass.
The project area is from the Mineral Creek bridge at the entrance to Silverton to Lime Creek on the south side of Molas Pass.
The project is expected to be completed by Aug. 20.
Work involves pavement leveling and an asphalt overlay on U.S. 550; it will also include resurfacing at the Molas Pass rest area and paving the entrance to the visitor center in Silverton.
The project is contracted to Elam Construction Inc., of Grand Junction for $3.53 million.
TRAVEL IMPACTS:
Throughout the duration of the project on U.S. 550, motorists will encounter single-lane, alternating traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday (some Friday work may occur). Delays will vary, depending upon traffic volumes, but are anticipated to be up to 20 minutes. Motorists’ patience and safe driving is greatly appreciated.
