Town Council votes unanimously to hire replacement for Elyse Ackerman
The Silverton Town Council voted unanimously Monday evening (with John Schertz absent) to offer the job of town administrator to Richard Bellis, director of development services for Archuleta County.
The town is offering a salary of $75,000 a year for Bellis, a 1983 graduate of North Dakota State University. He would replace Elyse Ackerman, who has accepted a position as head of Housing Solutions for the Southwest.
Ackerman said five finalists for the job were interviewed, including Deanna Jaramillo and Judy Graham of Silverton. The others were Tamra Allen of Durango, and Jim Patrick of Montana.
Ackerman said Bellis could start putting in 15 to 20 hours a week for the town in a couple weeks and be working full time in a month.
A contract is being prepared for the Town Council’s approval next week. Bellis has requested a minimum 2-year contract. Ackerman said a 5-year contract for such a position is standard.
Town officials said they would require Bellis to move to Silverton by Nov. 1.
“We need to get him locked in here before it starts snowing,” said Trustee David Zanoni.
Trustee Pat Swonger, who served on the personnel committee that interviewed the candidates, said Bellis’ experience will be “tremendous for the town.”
