State representative candidate visits Silverton today
Brian O’Donnell, the Democratic candidate for the Colorado House seat for the 59th district, is planning to visit Silverton today, Thursday. Sept. 9, for a “listening session.
O’Donnell said he will be at the Pride of the West at 4 p.m.
O’Donnell, of Durango, faces Republican J. Paul Brown in the Nov. 2 election to replace Republican Ellen Roberts in the House. Roberts is seeking the state senate seat now held by Democrat Bruce Whitehead of Hesperus.
Tummy Pleaser Food Sale for youth center
A Tummy Pleaser Food Sale will be conducted on Friday. Sept. 10 at the Silverton School basketball court at the corner of 12th and Reese from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event is a benefit for the Silverton Youth Center.
It will feature entrees from Silverton restaurants, breakfast burritos and baked goods. The second edition of the Silverton Youth Center cookbook will be available, along with homemade canned goods — jams, jellies and salsa, home-grown fruits and vegetables, and pizza by the slice.
Meet the Candidates Social Night Sept. 16
Everyone is invited to attend a Meet the Candidates Social Night at Mobius Cafe on Thursday, Sept. 16, from 6-8 p.m.
Snacks and entertainment will be provided along with a silent auction and the opportunity to register to vote. No speeches, just socializing.
gathering Sept. 18
The Silverton Snowmobile Club Cleanup Day for its adopted stretch of U.S. 550 will be held on Saturday, Sept. 18.
The club will meet at 10 a.m. at the Molas Lake Cabin area for the cleanup, then head to the Red Mountain Motel and RV Park in Silverton for a BBQ with burgers, chips and drinks.
The club will also hold its first meeting for the 2010-2011 snowmobiling season. The cleanup and meeting are open to all.
