Public service was on the agenda for Silverton youths in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

Fundraiser Saturday 
for KSJC, Jamboree
KSJC — Silverton Community Radio, and the Silverton Jamboree Committee are putting on a fund-raiser Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Villa DallaValle.
It’s what they’re calling the first annual Winter Evening Cocktail Party and Fundraiser, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Donations of $25 per person or $40 per couple will entitle guests to libation, a plethora of hors d’ouvres, and music from your favorite local musicians.
KSJC can be heard at 92.5 FM.
The Jamboree Committee is planning this year’s jamboree for Sept. 10.
Silverton Ski Team home race Feb. 12
The Silverton Ski Team’s home race will be on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Kendall Mountain Ski Area.
The race is free with the purchase of a ticket or season pass. 
Registration begins at 8 a.m.  Races begin at 9 a.m., with the youngest racers first.  
Kicksled Rodeo gets kicking on Feb. 19
Silverton Mountain School is sponsoring the Silverton Kicksled Rodeo this year on Saturday, Feb. 19.
The event starts at 10 a.m. on Blair Street, in front of the Avalanche Cafe. All participants will be awarded trophies.
Free avalanche safety class Feb. 5 at Molas
The Silverton Snowmobile Club, along with the San Juan County Sledders, is hosting a free avalanche safety class on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Molas Lake Park.
This one-day class will be presented by Colorado State Parks. If you are interested in attending this class please e-mail lauradp58@msn.com so the snowmobile club can get a head count for the class and send you more details as they become available.
If you are interested in a more detailed Avalanche Safety Class the Silverton Avalanche School is holding a 3-day avalanche class for snowmobile riders. 
This level 1 avalanche class for snowmobilers will be held on Feb. 18-20 at a cost of $279. The Silverton Avalanche School can be looked up online or the contact number is (970) 903-7039
