County coming up with a plan to submit to the governor.
Improving telecommunications infrastructure in San Juan County and formation of a state policy on rural economic development emerged as two key goals for improving Silverton’s economy during an economic development summit at Town Hall Monday night.
The summit was conducted as part of Gov. Hickenlooper’s “bottom-up” statewide economic development plan initiative. The idea is for counties to submit their own economic strategies and then meld those into regional and statewide plans.
“It’s your plan,” said Ken Charles, regional director of the Colorado Department of Local Affairs. “We’re just kind of your staff. We’re looking for local ownership of these plans throughout the state.”
