EPA, stakeholders postpone meeting
The Environmental Protection Agency and Animas River Stakeholders Group have postponed a scheduled town meeting to discuss results of an EPA assessment of whether a cluster of abandoned mines in the Gladstone area qualify for Superfund designation.
The meeting had been scheduled for tonight but is now being tentatively planned for later in July.
The ARSG will have its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 this evening at the old Miners Union Hospital.

KSJC Thrift Store to
The KSJC Jailhouse Thrift Store will be celebrating its grand opening this Sunday, June 19.
The celebration will occur in the yard of the historic jail at 1264 Blair St. from 5 to 8 p.m. It will feature live music and complementary snacks and libations. The entire community is invited to attend and bring their donations.
Cemetery work day at Hillside on Saturday
The 18th annual Silverton Hillside Cemetery Volunteer Work Day will take place on Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to noon.
“This is an opportunity to help the town of Silverton maintain, restore, and preserve its wonderful heritage,” said volunteer Mary Beaber.
Suggested tools to bring: (put your name on them) limb loppers, hand-held clippers, shovels, rakes and pruning saws.
Following the work session, anecdotes of early pioneers buried in Hillside Cemetery will be shared. Bring a sack lunch, eat, and listen!

A Theatre Group opens “Arms & the Man,” June 30 for 10 performances running through July 10.
This comedy by George Bernard Shaw will be presented in the Grand Imperial Hotel Theatre. Performances on June 30, July 1-2 will begin at 7:30 p.m. Matinees on July 3-4 will be at 4 p.m. The theatre will be dark on Tuesday. Performances July 6-9 will begin at 7:30 p.m., with a final matinee on July 10 at 4 p.m. Admission is $15. Children 10 and under are $10.
