2011: 11 deaths, 0 births, 20 marriages

Eleven death certificates were issued in San Juan County in 2011, including six for the victims of two plane crashes.
This compares with just four death certificates in 2010.
On March 20, Richard Perino, 87, former county commissioner and miner, died at his Silverton home.
On June 11, “Flash” Gordon Maisch, 60, died at his Silverton home.
On July 3, Kevin Baer, 26, of Phoenix, died in a kayaking accident on South Mineral Creek.
On July 14, David Hollenshead, 62 of Bossier City, La., and Brenda Taylor, 58, of Oil City, La., died in a plane crash near Stony Pass.
On Aug. 16, Cecil Alvin McCoy Jr., 59, of Clinton, La., died in an ATV accident near California Pass.
On Oct. 9, Silverton resident Ronald Pense, 83, died at his home.
And on Dec, 3, four Durango residents died in a plane crash just outside Silverton. They were Steve Osborne, 59, Jan Oborne, 50, Tyler Black, 24, and Gena Rych, 27.
For the sixth year in a row there were no births recorded in San Juan County.
Meanwhile, the county clerk’s office reports 20 marriage licenses issued in 2011, the same number as in 2010.
