Todd Hennis, owner of the Gold King and Mogul mines, addresses Silverton audience.
A mining promoter from Golden says he hopes to open “two medium-sized mines” in San Juan County that could employ about 100 people each.
“This is possibly the best thing I can do in life,” said Todd Hennis of Golden, president of San Juan Corp., which owns the Mogul Mine and the Gold King Mine near Gladstone.
But Hennis said that granting portions of the upper Animas River and Mineral Creek wild and scenic river status would undermine his efforts to bring mining back to the county.
Hennis gave a presentation Thursday night, Jan. 19, at Silverton Town Hall to about 30 people.
