Skijoring Festival to ride again

Horses, skiers to fly down Blair Street Feb. 18-19

The third annual Skijoring Festival in Silverton will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18 and Sunday Feb. 19. 
Races are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. each day. Registration will begin on Friday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. and will continue on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. 
Racing participation is limited to Skiers or Riders over 12 years old. Parental permission is required for participants under 18 years of age (parent must be present). 
The cost of participating is $25  per rider or skier per day or $50 each for 2-day participation. This fee includes two races for each day you are registered. 
Cash prizes will be awarded for best times. This event is a NO DOGS ALLOWED EVENT for the safety of the horses, riders, skiers and dogs. Please keep them at home and don’t let them roam that weekend.
There will be shops and restaurants open all weekend as well as local lodging.

Volunteers needed
For all who wish to volunteer to help out with Skijoring on Feb 18 or 19 (or both), there will be a brief training session at the Bent Elbow on Saturday, February 18 at 9:30 a.m. for all volunteers. 
“Attendance is not mandatory for volunteers; we will teach you as you go if you can not make it to the training,” said Laura Des Palmes, spokesperson for the skijoring festival. 
Please contact Des Palmes at (970) 744-9446 if you are able to give a few hours or a day of your time to help. 
“We will need help on Saturday and Sunday from about 10 a.m. until mid-afternoon, so please call if you can help,” Des Palmes said.
