Silverton School teacher Cassandra Papp, 33, was appointed to the Town Council in a 4-2 vote Monday night, wrapping up the final stage in this year’s election.
Papp had received 141 votes in the April 3 Town Council race, the same as Barbara Renowden, 65. That was one vote less than John Schertz who won the third Town Council seat up for grabs in the election.
But with Town Trustee Chris Tookey being elected mayor, the council was tasked with appointing a replacement to serve out the remaining two years of her term.
Papp was appointed in a 4-2 vote, with council members David Zanoni and “Outback” John Schertz voting against her joining the Town Council. Zanoni and Schertz had moments earlier supported Renowden in a motion that failed, with Trustees Karla Safranski, Tracy Boeyink and Pat Swonger voting no, along with the new mayor, Tookey.
Boeyink, meanwhile, as the top vote-getter in the Town Council race, was named Mayor Pro-Tem.
