Taste of Silverton celebration also this weekend
Visitors to last year’s Colorfest Quilt Show in Silverton admire some of the intricate patterns.

Huge quilt show this weekend at Silverton School gymnasium
High in the San Juan Mountains the leaves are beginning to turn. But an explosion of color has already arrived in historic Silverton.
The Colorfest Quilt Show and Sale, featuring hundreds of quilts from around the country, will be blanketing Silverton over the weekend of Sept. 12 and 13.
The theme for 2009 is “Silverton Gold,” paired with the spectacular fall color in the San Juan Mountains.
The event also coincides with the Taste of Silverton celebration on Saturday, Sept. 12. Come taste all the delights of  Silverton restaurants, served in the center of downtown surrounded by the majestic San Juan Mountains on historic Greene Street from 5-7 p.m. A DJ will be playing Oldies during the event.
The Colorfest Quilt Show and Sale is put on by the Silverton Threads quilting club.
The  show features vendors with unique fabrics, patterns and supplies, hourly door prizes and a charity quilt drawing.
The event is held at the Silverton School gymnasium, in downtown Silverton, just a block from the Grand Imperial Hotel.
Silverton Threads member Eileen Crawford said items for sale will range in price from $3 to several hundred dollars. Close to 400 entries are expected, including some wall hangings and all sorts of spectacular quilted works.
Door prizes will be awarded every half hour.
Crawford said vendors will be offering quilting supplies, fabrics and other sewing gear.
And an authorized Bernina sewing machine technician will offer sewing machine cleanings.
“That’s pretty huge,”  Crawford said. “We (quilting club members) bring our machines in and he cleans them.”
Proceeds from the event are donated to various community nonprofit groups.
Quilt show organizers noted that in previous years, some of the best bargains and most exciting quilts are snatched up early soon after the doors open on Saturday. But plenty of fine quilts are on display and for sale all weekend.
So head up to cool San Juans to escape the late summer heat, enjoy a Taste of Silverton and the early fall colors.
