All-class reunion to 
be held this weekend
The Silverton High School all-class reunion will be held this weekend, Aug 31. to Sept. 3.
“The school turned 100 last fall and we had hoped that there might be a reunion for the centennial year, but the work was not complete at that time,” said organizer Paul Voilleque. “We’ll be gathering to celebrate the new facility and the 101st year of operation this Labor Day Weekend.”
Sign-in for registered attendees as well as late registration will be in the Gymnasium on Friday afternoon (31 August) and on Saturday. 
The registration fee for reunion attendees will be $13 to cover the costs of the dance, ice cream social, welcoming hospitality, postage, and a $2 donation to the school. Advance registration is encouraged, so your nametag and ticket to the ice cream social, as well as tickets for other events you choose to attend can be ready when you arrive.

Trentini celebration
scheduled for Sept. 2
Silverton’s annual Trentini celebration is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 2, honoring the Italian immigrants of Silverton.
Admission is $10 per person, and festivities include Bocce ball, wine and cheese appetizers, traditional polenta dinner (polenta with shredded meat and gravy)

Colorfest Quilt Show Sept. 8-9 at school gym
Silverton’s Colorfest Quilt Show is scheduled for Sept. 8-9 at the Silverton School gym.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9.
Hundreds of quilts from around the country will be featured, along with unique vendors with fabrics, patterns and supplies.
Hourly door prices and a charity quilt drawing will be offered. Admission is $3. Proceeds to to local nonprofit organizations.
 
Fall Colors Chamber Music Fest Sept. 14-15
The second annual Silverton Fall Colors Chamber Music Festival will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14-15.
At 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept 14, there will be a jazz cocktail party at Montanya.
And at 7 p.m. on Saturday there will be a dinner (at participating restaurants) and concert at the First Congregational Church.
Tickets are on sale at the Silverton Visitors Center, Citizens State Bank’s Silverton and Ouray offices, at the Music in the Mountains Office and Katzin’s Music in Durango.
 
LDS Church open house Friday, Sept. 7
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (the Mormons) will be holding an open house on Friday, Sept. 7, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the temple at 727 Greene Street.
Presentations will be given on food storage, to include emergency equipment, solar stoves, water purification,, bread-making from stored wheat, and dry-pack canning.
There will also be a presentation on family history, such as Web sites, census data, and use of a computer on family searches , as well as a brief DVD on the life of Christ. The public is welcome to attend one or all of the Presentations. Light refreshments will be served.
