As anyone in Silverton can tell you, fall means a much longer wait for the sun each morning as Kendall Mountain casts an increasingly large shadow over the town as the sun moves toward winter solstice.

MSI celebration Friday, Nov. 2 at Mountain House
Mountain Studies Institute is planning a Gathering of Friends to celebrate 2012 on Friday evening, Nov. 2.
The event, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the MSI Mountain House, 740 Reese St., is a celebration of MSI’s accomplishments for 2012, mountains, mountain research, and a year well lived.
Light refreshments will be served.
 
Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday morning
Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4. Remember to move your clocks one hour back.
 
 
It’s official: Post office to cut hours on Jan. 12
The Postal Service made it official on Monday, Oct. 29:
The Silverton Post Office will operate on reduced hours effective Saturday, Jan. 12.
The post office currently is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Starting on Jan. 12, the Saturday hours will remain the same. But weekday hours will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a lunchtime closure from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Access to post office boxes will still be available 24 hours per day and mail will be available for daily pickup by 1 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
 
Town offers discounts
on early purchase of Kendall season passes
The Town of Silverton has announced prices season passes for the 2012-13 ski season at Kendall Mountain Ski Area.
Early bird prices will end on Nov. 16. The new prices will be:
 • Season, Adult: $175/$150 early.
• Season, Child: $125/$100 early.
• Seniors: $125/$100 early.
• Family, local: $275/$250 early.
• Family, nonlocal: $325/$300 early.
 
 
Weehawken Dance brings ‘The Grinch’ to Silverton on Sunday, Nov. 4
 Weehawken Dance will present, “The Grinch,” a dance performance scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, at Silverton School.
The performance will feature Weehawken dancers and Silverton dancers. Tickets are $10 each and are on sale at Silverton School.
