Thanksgiving dinner at American Legion
American Legion Post 14 and St. Patrick’s Altar Society will host the annual Thanksgiving dinner for the community. 
Turkey and fixings will be served on Thanksgiving Day from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Al Homann Hall in the American Legion building.
Everyone is welcome to attend. Potluck side dishes (vegetables, salads, desserts) will be gratefully accepted at this community get-together. Cash donations will also be accepted.

Yule Log Festival
gets rolling Dec. 1 
Silverton’s annual Yule Log Festival will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Kendall Mountain Recreation Area, starting at 10:30 a.m.
Children compete to find the Yule Log by following the candy clues and gathering candy left by the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Hot cocoa will be served. Please bring a dessert to share.
There will be Carolling by the bon fire.
This year’s Yule Log Festival is presented by the Silverton Youth Center middle school and high school students.
Christmas Bazaar scheduled for Dec. 8
The annual Silverton Christmas Bazaar will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the American Legion building.
The event is sponsored by the American Legion Post #14 Women’s Auxiliary.

2013 calendar on sale 
The Silverton Standard & the Miner, a national historic site in journalism, is again conducting its annual holiday fundraiser, offering a 2013 calendar with amazing scenic color photos of the San Juans.
The 2013 calendar is available for $9.95 plus $3 shipping and handling.
“We have some great photos in this year’s calendar,” said Standard editor Mark Esper. “It makes a great gift for anyone who loves Silverton and the San Juans.”

Silverton Food Bank seeking donations
It’s that time of year again — the Silverton Food Bank annual fundraiser. 
The food bank is totally funded by donations and operated by volunteers. It was started 12 years ago by Andy Gleason with Rose Raab doing the books (which she still does today). The food bank has a total open-door policy and everyone is welcome.
Checks can be made out to St. Patrick’s Church and mailed to P.O. Box 331, Silverton, CO 81433.

for Chamber holiday dinner Saturday, Dec. 8
The Silverton Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the annual holiday dinner on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 6-8 p.m.
Please call the Chamber at 387-5654 (between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) as soon as possible to reserve your table (8-10 people) for the evening. The time to decorate the tables will be that day at 3 p.m.
The Town of Silverton is providing the meat for the dinner. All those attending are asked to bring individual side dishes or desserts to share.
Caldera Belly Dance Holiday Hafla Dec. 14
Join Caldera Belly Dance for a festive holiday celebration!  
This fun event will feature family friendly belly dance performances, shopping with local craft vendors, door prizes, light refreshments, and lots of holiday cheer! The Holiday Hafla will be held on Friday, Dec. 14, from 6-9 p.m at Silverton Movement Center.

Search and rescue seeks T-shirt design
San Juan County Search and Rescue is seeking design submissions for 2013 fundraising T-shirts.  
SJCSAR’s mission is “to protect and/or save lives and to promote four-season safety in the backcountry.”  Submissions should reflect this mission statement, be no larger than 8” x 10”, black and white, and signed by the artist. All submissions should have an attached 3” x 5” card with the artist/author’s name, address, phone number, and shirt size.
“We would love for citizens to participate and submit drawings for consideration,” said Laila Bryant, search and rescue lieutenant.. Submissions must be received by Dec. 11. Work can be dropped off at the Carriage House, mailed to PO Box 4, or e-mailed to sar.sjc@gmail.com.
The selected design will be printed on t-shirts and sold at local stores and events to benefit San Juan County SAR. The artist whose design is printed will receive a free official t-shirt featuring their design!
“We hope to make this an annual event with new shirts being created each year,” Bryant said.
