Christmas breakfast
offered by Legion
Women’s Auxiliary 
All the restaurants in town may be closed on Christmas morning but breakfast will be available at the American Legion from 7 to 9 a.m.
The Legion Women’s Auxiliary will serve scrambled eggs, sausage and pancakes.
 
Christmas events planned at First Congregational 
• Sunday, Dec. 23 —  Morning worship at 9 a.m., with a service of music and plans to sing ALL the Christmas Carols there is time for. Coffee and treats following this service.
 • Monday, Dec. 24 —  Christmas Eve Candle-light service at 6 p.m. Hear the Christmas story in Scripture and song. Service will end with the lighting of everyone's candle in the darkened church while singing Silent Night.
 • Tuesday, Christmas Day — Community Christmas Dinner at the Silverton School. Dinner served from noon to 2 p.m.  If you have a favorite dish you would like to share, please bring it! 
 
Snowmobile Club plans kids’ safety class
The Silverton Snowmobile Club is hosting a kids’ safety class at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Molas Lake
The kids safety course is a free class geared for 10-16 year old snowmobile riders wishing to earn a snowmobile safety certificate but all ages wishing to learn snowmobile safety are welcome. Part of this class will be held outside and will require appropriate cold weather clothing, gloves and boots. Please bring beverages and food for yourselves as no refreshments will be provided.
The Silverton Snowmobile Club will be hosting the Colorado State Parks Avalanche Awareness Class.The class, given by Colorado State Parks, is a one day free class covering the basic lessons of avalanche awareness and use of beacons and probes.
This event will take place at Molas Lake on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. Please note that this is a very basic avalanche awareness class, If you prefer a more extensive class go to the website of the Silverton Avalanche School at avyschool.com. Please be sure to wear plenty of cold weather gear for the outdoor portion of the class. If you own or have access to beacons, probes and shovels please bring those although all are welcome with or without them.

Nature tour offered at 
Cascade Creek Jan. 19
A winter nature tour, Conifers Coexist at Cascade Creek, will take place Saturday morning, Jan. 19.  Folks of all ages are invited to go snowshoeing with the San Juan Mountains Association, in partnership with San Juan National Forest, and certified interpretive guide MK Thompson.  
Explore the variety of evergreen trees in the Cascade area along with other winter ecology wonders. Snowshoes are available for kids under 120 pounds.  E-mail or call today to reserve your spots!  Contact MK@sjma.org or (970) 759-9113.  Various tours are offered throughout the winter.
