A sketch of the proposed new Silverton San Juan Fire Authority facility
that would be located on Greene Street north of the Carriage House.
The Silverton-San Juan Fire Authority unveiled preliminary plans for a $470,000 fire department building north of the Carriage House this week, and the proposal was greeted positively by Town Council members and county commissioners.
The 7,200-square-foot building would include four bays to house fire department equipment, including the recently acquired ladder truck. One of the bays would be used as a sort of museum housing the department’s antique firefighting equipment.
Fire Chief Gilbert Archuleta said the building could be financed with payments of $25,000 a year, using some of the revenue from the county’s 1 percent sales tax dedicated to emergency services.
