New deputy on patrol in San Juan County
Steve Lowrance has been hired as a deputy for the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.
Lowrance has 12 years of experience in law enforcement, having most recently served as a Costilla County deputy. He previously served as a police officer in Center and Minturn.
Lowrance started work in Silverton last week. He will be joined here by his wife, Norma Sanchez.
Fire department to wash down Greene Street on Friday
The Silverton-San Juan Volunteer Fire Department plans to hose down Greene Street on Friday, May 17, starting at 6:30 a.m.
Fire Chief Gilbert Archuleta asks residents to please keep their vehicles off the street that morning.
Graduation day May 23 for 2 Silverton seniors
Silverton High School will be graduating two seniors this year in a commencement ceremony in the school's Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 23. The public is invited.
Graduating will be Geraldo Acosta and Kacey Foster.
Also on Wednesday, May 22 at 6 p.m., the Passages Ceremony will be held for other students.
The last day of school for Silverton is Thursday, May 22.
Memorial Day to be observed by Legion
on Monday, May 27
The Silverton American Legion Post has made plans for the Memorial Day obser- vance on Monday, May 27.
Veterans and anyone else interested will muster at the American Legion Hall at 10 a.m., and then converge on Memorial Park at 11 a.m. for a short ceremony, said Post Commander Gary Davis.
All visiting veterans are welcome to take part.
Museum Cleanup Day is Saturday, May 18
The San Juan County Historical Society will be conducting its annual Museum Cleanup Day on Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to noon.
“Helpers would be appreciated,” said Bev Rich, president of the historical society.
