Business innovation center, distillery, upscale restaurant on the horizon.
Tony Berenyi has owned the landmark Benson Building for barely a week but he already has big plans that include a business innovation center, a distillery and an upscale restaurant.
And he says that while he plans significant improvements to the 112-year-old building, current tenants don’t need to worry that their rents are about to go through the roof.
The Benson Building at the corner of 12th and Greene was sold for $720,000 to BRI, LLC, a company owned by Berenyi, with county officials recording the transaction on Nov. 22.
The building had previously been owned by the Harry A. Lowe Agency of Ouray, which acquired the property in 1996 for a price of $600,000.
The property’s assessed value in 2013 was $1.1 million, according to the San Juan County Assessor’s Office.
