Silverton High School senior Will Custer scored 24 points and sophomores Martin Torres and Ernesto Saldana added 8 and 7 points respectively as the Silverton Miners battled the Ouray Trojans boys junior varsity squad before a large crowd at the Silverton School gym Friday evening.
The newly revived Silverton co-ed team fell to the visiting Ouray squad by a score of 41-77, but Silverton coach Dan Salazar said the team continues to improve “week by week” as the season progresses.
Sophomore Talitha Gallegos added two points to the Miners’ score on Friday night.
Torres led the Miners in rebounding with 11. Custer grabbed 8 rebounds, Sandana 7, and Levi Lokey 5. The Miners played aggressively on defense, with Alexis Gallegos and Hannah deKay fouling out.
Custer, on the bench through most of the third quarter with four fouls, returned in the fourth quarter, lighting up the scoreboard with 14 points in the final stanza.

The next home games will be on Saturday, Jan. 11, when the Miners take on Mancos at 10 a.m. and Dolores at 2 p.m.
Meanwhile, Mancos and Dolores will play at noon Jan. 11 in the Silverton School gym.
