Two new Town Council members and two returning incumbents were sworn into office Monday night, April 14 and among their first major actions was approval of a draft ordinance establishing rules of the road for off-highway vehicles operating in Silverton.
Taking the oath of office were Larry Gallegos and Pete Maisel, along with returning board members Malcolm MacDougall and Karla Safranski.
They join Mayor Chris Tookey and trustees Tracy Boeyink and David Zanoni on the 7-member panel.
The new council on Monday moved forward with the ordinance to facilitate limited OHV use in town.
In the April 1 election voters approved making the temporary OHV routes used last summer for three special events permanent. That will allow ATVs and unlicensed dirt bikes access to downtown and campgrounds at the south end of town.
