First train arrives
in town Saturday
The first Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train of the season is scheduled to arrive in Silverton at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, May 1.
The railroad will host a complementary continental breakfast in the Silverton depot at 10th and Cement streets in Silverton from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Many Silverton residents will be dressing in old fashion manner to greet the train as it passes the depot.
When it arrives at 12th and Blair, the Silverton Brass Band will greet passengers.
On Friday in Durango, the railroad hosts Narrow Gauge Day in front of the depot at 479 Main Avenue. This free community event will take place from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m.
In addition to a complementary picnic and a performance by the Bar D Wranglers, the railroad will have its newest car, the Yankee Girl, as well as other Premium-class cars on display for viewing. Members of CarbonZero will be present to give away 300 tree seedlings that have been purchased by the railroad as part of the ongoing green efforts.
