Caboose calendars to benefit the Standard
The 2010 Silverton Standard & Caboose calendar, featuring historic photos of Silverton and the San Juans, is still available and makes a great holiday gift.
By our calculation, the calendars will also be perfectly useable in the year 2016, at least up until Feb. 28. After that, you can pencil in Feb. 29, 2016, and then adjust the following months accordingly by changing the first column to Saturday, the second column to Sunday and so on.
The calendars will also be accurate for the entire year of 2021, except for some religious holidays.
The calendars are just $9.95 each plus $3 shipping and handling. To place an order, send a check to Silverton Standard, P.O. Box 8, Silverton, CO 81433, or call the Standard at (970) 387-5477 to place an order with a credit card.

Students planning bake sale for Dec. 17
Next week, the Silverton School kindergarten and first-grade class is having a bake sale to raise money for the Rain Forest Action Network.
RAN works to protect land in rain forests around the world. The students have been studying trees and learning about how important they are to life on Earth.
They are making paper and baked goods using food that we get from trees to sell. Come to Smedley’s on Thursday, Dec. 17 between 8:30 and 11 a.m. for tasty treats and homemade paper, just in time for the holidays!
