Silverton Public Works employee Bill King clears snow from the ice skating rink at Kendall Mountain Recreation Area on Wednesday, Dec. 9. A severe winter storm slammed into Silverton Sunday night and Monday, closing Red Mountain Pass and Molas and Coal Bank passes. The skating rink may not be open for the weekend, but Kendall Mountain Ski Area will open for the season on Friday, said Public Works Supervisor Gilbert Archuleta. The town-owned ski area will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It will also be open every day during Silverton School’s Christmas break.
