Flurries and Flames Lantern Festival lights it up Feb. 19
The second annual Flurries and Flames Lantern Festival is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 19, when hundreds of Chinese lanterns will again be launched in a benefit for the Silverton Family Learning Center.
“This year the launch is at 7:30 p.m., not 7,” said organizer Darlene Watson.
Flames and Flurries is a nonprofit. Sponsors are Silverton Chamber, Silverton Grocery, and Grand Imperial Hotel.
The learning center will also have their chili cook-off that night, starting at 5:30, all of course at Kendall Mountain Community Center. Deputy Ian Tanner will be the MC.
“We have colored Lanterns also this year,”Watson said.
“We ask that attendees to dress warm, bring a marker to write their wish, and a lighter to light their lantern,” Watson said.
Pens and lighters will be available for purchase if people forget theirs.
Tickets are $10 each for the lantern fest in advance, $15 on the day of the event.
Ticket can be purchased from Silverton Grocery, Silverton Visitor Center, Silverton Family Learning Center, and the Grand Imperial Hotel.
Watson pointed out the lanterns are bio-degradeable, made of rice paper and bamboo, and almost all of them are recovered after the event by volunteers.
