278 ballots already received for the April 25 election
Will off-highway vehicles be allowed to use town streets this summer?
That is the question to be decided by Silverton voters in a hotly-contested special election on Tuesday, Apil 25.
As of Wednesday morning, nearly half of the town’s 565 registered voters had already returned ballots by mail.
Assistant Town Clerk Sara Mordecai said on Wednesday that Town Hall has already received 278 ballotsnearly half of the 565 ballots mailed out.
The Post Office has also returned to the Town 35 “unopened” ballots that the town mailed out.
At stake in the election is whether all-terrain vehicles and unlicensed dirt bikes will still be allowed to use some or all of the town’s streets.
Town voters approved limited routes for OHVs in April 2014 vote by a vote of 243-179.
But petition drives have forced the issue again, with three ballot measures facing voters.
