Former Silverton
resident missing
Former Silverton resident Winston Churchill has been reported missing, after disappearing on the Colorado Trail near Lake City some three weeks ago.
Churchill had been the owner of the Mobius Café on Greene Street.
According to a friend of Churchill’s, Paddy Hannon of Los Angeles, Churchill had attempted suicide last year.
When he was last seen by a sheep herder outside of Lake City, he was no longer continuing on the Colorado Trail and was headed toward the Wet Elk drainage.
He reportedly told the sheep herder that he was planning to return to Lake City around Sept. 8, but he has not been seen since.
The Hinsdale County Sheriff’s Office sent out a search and rescue team, but the effort was called off due to the lack of clues as to Churchill’s direction and possible destination.
Hannon said “Winston is strong and can cover a lot of ground quickly.
“However, at this point he last received supplies over a month ago and we are worried about his physical and mental state,” Hannon said, noting Churchill had left his dog in Lake City in late August.
