The seventh annual Taste of Silverton and block party street dance is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, from 5 to 9 p.m.
The event takes place on Greene Street between 13th and 14th streets.
It is a chance to enjoy samplings from Silverton’s dining establishments, with live music and dancing in the street to the local band SKU.

First Congregational
to celebrate 130th

First Congregational Church of Silverton will celebrate its 130th anniversary and the rededication of the newly restored sanctuary on Sunday, June 22.
The sanctuary will be rededicated at 9 a.m., with many visitors from the church’s past participating. A potluck brunch will follow.  An open house and ice cream social will take place at 6 p.m. on the church lawn, with the Silverton Brass Band performing. All are invited to both events. For more information, call Cynthia (387-5165) or Sue (387-5759).

Cemetery cleanup
day is Saturday

The 15th Annual Silverton Hillside Cemetery volunteer work day will take place on Saturday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to oon. This is an opportunity to help the town of Silverton maintain, restore, and preserve its wonderful heritage.
Suggested tools to bring: (put your name on them) limb loppers, hand-held clippers, shovels, rakes and pruning saws.
Following the work session, anecdotes of early pioneers buried in Hillside Cemetery will be shared.  Bring a sack lunch, eat, and listen.
If you are unable to attend but would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the Silverton Hillside Cemetery, send your contributions to:
Hillside Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 115, Silverton, CO  81433
The cemetery fund is part of the San Juan Historical Society, and is used solely for the maintenance and upkeep of Hillside Cemetery.
For more information on the cemetery work day, contact Freda Peterson, 387-5609 or Mary Beaber, 387-5360.

Town has a Web cam

Silverton now has a Web cam, thanks to Matt Lanning and his Web site, www.basecampsilverton.com.
The Web site is a free, user-generated site Lanning established last year, providing listings for local businesses, classified ads, photo sharing, blogs and announcements of events.
The Web cam can be seen at the upper right of the Web site's home page.
