Long-time San Juan County Commissioner Pete McKay said on Tuesday, Jan. 21, that he does not plan to seek another term in office.

“I will not be running for re-election as county commissioner for District 1 in San Juan County,” McKay told the Silverton Standard.

McKay, a Democrat, has served as a San Juan County commissioner for 20 years.

On Jan. 8 McKay, 69, was elected board chairman of the 3-member panel in a 2-1 vote, replacing long-time Chairman Ernie Kuhlman.

McKay’s current term expires at the end of the year, along with that of Commissioner Scott Fetchenhier (D), who was first elected in 2012.
