From the March 3, 1900 edition of the Silverton Standard: SEARCH CALLED OFF FOR SLIDE VICTIM. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday thirty to forty men dug holes in the big snowslide near the Sampson mill in quest of the body of Louis Avi. The search was in vain and Wednesday evening work was suspended. It is said that at the time of Avi’s death he had about $800 in checks and bank bills in his pockets…
